No Surprises in Massachusetts’ Senate Race, Kerry Way Ahead
Thursday, September 25, 2008
The United States Senate race in Massachusetts continues to be a lock for Senator John Kerry. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds the former Democratic Presidential nominee leading challenger Jeff Beatty 65% to 30%. Last month, Kerry had a 56% to 29% lead over his opponent. The Democrat, who is seeking his fifth term in the Senate, has held dominating leads over Beatty since tracking of the race began back in May. Beatty is a businessman and military veteran. Rasmussen Markets data shows that Kerry is given a % chance of winning re-election in November. These figures are updated on a 24/7 basis by market participants. Kerry leads 56% to 37% among unaffiliated voters this month. He has a 60% to 35% edge among men and a 69% to 26% lead among women in Massachusetts. (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). The Senator is viewed favorably by 61% of voters and unfavorably by 34%. Beatty is still much less known to voters. His ratings are 36% favorable, 33% unfavorable, and 32% still have no opinion of him. Governor Deval Patrick earns good or excellent ratings from 44% of voters in his state. One in five voters (20%) think the governor is doing a poor job. There are no surprises in Massachusetts’ presidential race either, which has Barack Obama leading John McCain by double-digits. Polling has been released this week for California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina.
