Republican Senator from Alabama Jeff Sessions leads Democratic challenger Vivian Davis Figures 58% to 34% in the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the state’s Senate race.

In May, Sessions led Figures 62% to 29%. The month before, Sessions held a twenty-one point lead. An average of all three recent polls shows Sessions leading Figures 59% to 33%.

Sessions leads 61% to 30% among men in Alabama and 54% to 39% among women. He also earns support from 86% of Republicans, 23% of Democrats, and 63% of unaffiliated voters. Figures’ support comes from 67% of Democrats, 10% of Republicans and 24% of unaffiliated voters.

Sessions is viewed favorably by 68% of voters and unfavorably by 27%. Figures’ ratings are 37% favorable and 42% unfavorable.

The Alabama incumbents’ numbers are a welcome bit of good news for Republicans in Senate polling. Polling has shown that many Republican senate seats are potentially in play, including seats in Virginia, Alaska, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Texas. Only two Democratic seats, one in New Jersey and another in Louisiana, are considered vulnerable at this point.

Alabama Governor Bob Riley receives good or excellent ratings from 64% of the state’s voters. Just 13% think Riley is doing a poor job as governor.
