The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Virginia voters finds Rudy Giuliani with a three-percentage point lead over Hillary Clinton in the race for the state’s Electoral Votes. John McCain and Fred Thompson each have a single point advantage over Clinton while Mike Huckabee trails the former First Lady by nine.

Clinton’s support ranges from 43% to 48% when matched against the various Republican hopefuls. Nationally, against all of the top five Republicans, Clinton’s support remains in the 46% to 49% range.

In Virginia, Clinton leads all Republicans among women but trails all among men.

No Democratic Presidential candidate has won the state of Virginia since 1964, so Clinton’s competitiveness is bullish for her party. However, she has lost a bit of ground against each Republican candidate compared to last month’s survey. In September, Clinton had a 3-point lead over Giuliani in the state that produced four of our nation’s first five Presidents.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows Clinton with a solid lead in the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Giuliani has a much more modest lead in national GOP polling. Clinton has become the unifying theme of the entire campaign, including the Republican nomination contest and the general election.

While the Presidential race in Virginia is competitive, Democrat Mark Warner has a solid early lead in the state’s U.S. Senate race.

Clinton is viewed favorably by 47% and unfavorably by 51% of Virginia voters. Those figures are similar to her numbers nationally. Clinton is viewed favorably by 51% of women and 42% of men. Nationally, Clinton attracts an average 18% of Republican women while losing 20% of men in general election match-ups.

McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of Virginia voters, Giuliani by 54%, Thompson by 51%, and Huckabee by 40%.

Forty-one percent (41%) of Virginia voters say that President Bush is doing a good or excellent job while 44% say he is doing a poor job. Those numbers reflect a very slight improvement over last month when 38% said good or excellent and 45% said poor.

The survey was conducted in partnership with Fox Television Stations, Inc.
