Republican hopefuls Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson are doing a bit better in Missouri this month, but the classic swing state looks like it will be competitive again in 2008. Giuliani now leads Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton by three points, 45% to 42%. Clinton and Thompson are tied at 44%. Last month, Clinton had a slight edge over all leading Republican hopefuls. Barack Obama doesn’t fare quite as well against the Republican frontrunners. He trails Giuliani by five and Thompson by nine. Judging by history, the candidate who wins the Show-Me State’s Electoral Votes generally wins the White House. Missouri voters will see a lot of campaigning next year—the Governor’s race is also very competitive. All four candidates earn fairly positive reviews from Missouri voters. Fifty-two percent (52%) have a favorable opinion of Giuliani while 51% say the same about Thompson. Clinton earns positive reviews from 48% and Obama’s favorable are at 47%. Clinton and Obama are the top two candidates in national polling for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Thompson survived his first debate with the other contenders and trails only Giuliani among Republicans. The survey was conducted in partnership with Fox Television Stations, Inc. Thirty-six percent (36%) of Missouri voters say President Bush is doing a good or excellent job while 45% give him poor marks. Governor Matt Blunt earns good or excellent ratings from 41% while 28% of voters say he’s doing a poor job. See survey questions and top-line results. Crosstabs available for Premium Members only.
