Election 2008: Maine Presidential Election
Maine: Obama 56% McCain 43%

In the closing days of Election 2008, Barack Obama enjoys a double digit lead over John McCain in Maine. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds Obama with 56% of the vote and McCain with 43%. A month ago, Obama was up by five. The Democratic candidate is now viewed favorably by 63% of voters in Maine while earning negative reviews from 36%. McCain’s numbers are 52% favorable and 45% unfavorable. As in the rest of the country, McCain leads by a huge margin among those who attend church on a regular basis while Obama leads by similar margins among those who rarely or never attend worship services (demographic crosstabs available for Premium Members). Rasmussen Markets data gives Obama a % chance of winning Maine’s four Electoral College votes this fall. These results are updated on a 24/7 basis by market participants. It costs nothing to join, so add your voice to the collective wisdom. Just 24% say that George W. Bush is doing a good or excellent job as President. Fifty-eight percent (58%) say he is doing a poor job. Maine has cast its four Electoral College votes for the Democratic candidate in the last four presidential elections. In 2004, John Kerry won the state over George W. Bush by nine percentage points. At the time the poll was released, the state was classified as “Likely Democratic” in the Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator. Battleground state polls released Monday showed Obama leading in Colorado, Florida, Ohio and Virginia. In Missouri and North Carolina, the race remains a toss-up while McCain leads by five in his home state of Arizona. Rasmussen Reports Electoral College projections now show Obama leading 260-160. When “leaners” are included, Obama leads 313-160. Other new polls show McCain ahead in Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Montana and Mississippi while Obama has the advantage in New Mexico and Pennsylvania.
