Just 25% of Americans believe that the Democratic candidates are piling on Senator Hillary Clinton and attacking her unfairly. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 57% disagree and say there has been no piling on. Among those who think Clinton has been attacked unfairly, opinion is evenly divided as to the reason—44% say it’s because she’s a woman and 45% say it’s because the former First Lady in winning. Combining these answers shows that just 11% of American believe that Clinton is being picked on unfairly because of her gender. That suggests voters are viewing her primarily as a Presidential frontrunner rather than as a woman who happens to be running for President. There is virtually no gender gap on these questions and no substantial difference along generation lines. Democrats are far more likely than others to believe that Senator Clinton has been unfairly attacked. Among members of her own party, 37% believe Clinton has been the victim of piling on while 40% disagree. Just 15% of Republicans and 20% of those not affiliated with either major party think the term piling on is appropriate. See survey questions and top-line results.
