Hillary Clinton leads both Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson by nearly ten percentage points in Illinois. However, a Rasmussen Reports telephone survey found that home-state Senator Barack Obama does far better and leads the GOP hopefuls by more than 20 percentage points. It’s Obama 56% Giuliani 33% and Obama 55% Thompson 34%.

By a 61% to 14% margin, Illinois voters believe Obama would do a better job than Clinton of representing their state’s interests.

Obama is viewed favorably by 66% of Illinois voters, far more than the other candidates. Clinton earns favorably reviews from 54%, Thompson from 53% and Giuliani from 52%.

Voters are tougher on Governor Rod Blagojevich. He earns good or excellent reviews from just 22% of voters. Fifty-three percent (53%) say he’s doing a poor job.

Fifty-three percent (53%) also say the governor is to blame for the budget stalemate. Twenty percent (20%) blame special interest groups, 19% blame the state legislature, and 2% say voters are the problem.

Clinton has consistently led all Democrats in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll. Giuliani has held a less comfortable lead on the Republican side. It’s becoming more and more clear that reporters have been missing what matters in the race for the GOP nomination.

Like voters everywhere, most in Illinois want to see troops coming home from Iraq. Just 26% favor an immediate withdrawal while another 38% want the troops home within a year

Rasmussen Reports today released state polling results in Pennsylvania, Missouri, New York and Illinois. Other recent state polls have been released in Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Oregon, Colorado, and New Hampshire.

In Primary Polls, Clinton leads all Democrats in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida.

The Republican Primary picture is more muddled. Romney leads in New Hampshire, Thompson leads in South Carolina, and Giuliani is on top in Florida.
