Rudy Giuliani leads the Republican Presidential Primary in Florida with 29% support in the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey. Fred Thompson is in second place earning 23% of the vote. A month ago, Giuliani had a thirteen-point advantage over Thompson, 30% to 17%. Two months ago, Giuliani and Thompson were virtually tied for the lead in Florida.

Mitt Romney has lost ground in the Sunshine State over the past month. He currently attracts support from 11% of Likely Primary Voters, down from 15% in August.

John McCain has moved in the opposite direction and is now supported by 12%, a gain of five points since our last survey.

Mike Huckabee is the top choice for 3% of Florida primary voters while four other candidates split 2% of the vote.

Giuliani is viewed favorably by 77% of Primary Voters. Thompson draws such positive reviews from 67%. McCain is viewed favorably by 59%, Romney by 58%.

Nationally, Giuliani is seen as the most electable Republican candidate while Thompson is seen as the most conservative. McCain and Romney are stuck in a precarious position between the frontrunners and the also-rans. Romney’s primary claim to top-tier status is his lead in the New Hampshire Primary polls.

Republican Governor Charlie Crist remains one of the few bright spots for the GOP in Florida. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of all voters say he is doing a good or an excellent job, 31% say fair, and 9% poor.

The survey was conducted in partnership with Fox Television Stations, Inc.

Those numbers are down slightly from a month ago when 64% said he was doing a good or an excellent job. Just 23% of voters say that recent legislation passed to address homeowners insurance issues was good or excellent.

A separate survey conducted last month found that Hillary Clinton leads the top Republican hopefuls in the race for Florida’s 27 Electoral College votes.
