Election 2008: Utah Governor
Utah Governor: Huntsman in the Clear
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. shouldn’t be worried about losing his job this November. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Utah finds him leading Democratic challenger Bob Springmeyer 66% to 19%. Huntsman dominates among both men and women. He even has support from 38% of Democrats in the state. The incumbent is backed by 81% of Utah Republicans and 59% of unaffiliated voters. Sprinmeyer’s support comes from just 48% of Democrats, 7% of Republicans and 15% of unaffiliated voters. Huntsman is viewed favorably by 80% of Utah voters and unfavorably by just 18%. Springmeyer, a businessman, is less known among voters. His numbers are 25% favorable, 29% unfavorable and nearly half of voters (46%) have no opinion. Approval ratings for Huntsman are also high for a governor. He earns good or excellent ratings from 68% of voters, while just 5% give him a poor rating. All of these things considered, Rasmussen Markets data shows that the Republican incumbant has a % chance of obtaining his second term in office. In Utah’s Presidential race, John McCain has a solid lead over Barack Obama in one of the “reddest” states in the nation. See survey questions and toplines.
