Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory is still ahead of Lt. Governor Bev Perdue by four points, 51% to 47%, in North Carolina's closely-contested gubernatorial race, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state. This is the second straight poll in which the Republican has led his Democratic opponent by four percentage points, after trailing by six in mid-August. (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). The race among unaffiliated voters has grown tighter over the past month. McCrory now leads 51% to 45% among this group, compared to last month when he led 61% to 33%. The Republican has a solid 59% to 39% lead among men, while women favor Perdue by a 53% to 45% margin. McCrory is viewed favorably by 60% and unfavorably 34%. Perdue’s ratings are 51% favorable, 46% unfavorable. These ratings have changed little over the past month. Perdue is currently serving her second term as lieutenant governor. McCrory has been Charlotte’s mayor since 1995. Rasmussen Markets data currently gives Perdue a % chance of winning the election in November while McCrory has a -- % chance. These figures are updated on a 24/7 basis by market participants. It costs nothing to join and add your insights. John McCain now leads Barack Obama by two points, 50% to 48%, in the Tar Heel State. Mike Easley, the state's Democratic governor, earns good or excellent ratings from 37% of voters in North Carolina. That’s up two points since September. A quarter (25%) say he is doing a poor job.
