Incumbent Democratic Gov. Brad Henry has extended his already impressive lead over U.S. Rep. Ernest Istook by four points since last month’s survey. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Henry leading Istook 59% to 34% (see crosstabs). Sixty-eight percent (68%) of voters surveyed approve of Henry’s job performance as governor, with 29% indicating they “strongly approve.” Thirty percent (30%) disapprove—12% strongly so. President Bush trails Gov. Henry by in overall approval ratings (55%), but has a higher percentage of voters who strongly approve of his job performance (35%). At the other end of the spectrum, 43% disapprove of the president’s job performance, with 27% saying they “strongly disapprove.” As is the case in several other races across the country, the immigration issue is rearing its head in Oklahoma. The Istook campaign continues to attack Henry on the issue, most recently citing quotes they attribute to Henry in which he allegedly says that amnesty should be considered for illegal immigrants. Henry has denied the allegations. Crosstabs are available for Premium Members only.
