Republicans seem likely to pick up a Senate seat in Georgia to offset one they are losing in Illinois. The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows Republican Johnny Isakson holding a double-digit lead, 54% to 42%, over Democrat Denise Majette. The winner will replace Democrat Zell Miller in Washington next year. Miller thrilled Republicans and angered Democrats with his keynote address at the Republican National Convention this year. Sixty-one percent (61%) of Georiga voters have a favorable opinion of Isakson. Forty-six percent (46%) say the same about Majette. Georgia remains safely in the Republican column for our Senate Overview. While either party could gain control of the Senate this November, Democrats will need to win the overwhelming majority of the Toss-Up states. Senate control will be decided in a handful of close races including South Dakota, Colorado, Oklahoma, Alaska, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Florida. The South Carolina Senate race is closer than expected, but still Leans Republican.
