According to the latest Rasmussen Reports Maine election poll, Republican Senator Olympia Snowe has a hefty lead over her opponent, Democrat Jean Hay Bright, 66% to 26% (see crosstabs).

Seventy-three percent (73%) of likely voters have a favorable opinion of Snowe, making her one of the nation’s most popular incumbents.

Just 38% have a favorable opinion of Hay Bright. This is the first Rasmussen Reports survey to include the Democrat’s Senate nominee who won her primary election last week.

Last Saturday Hay Bright appeared at a Democratic convention to discuss single-payer healthcare and the issue of the war in Iraq. Hay Bright believes troops should leave Iraq immediately. Snowe, however, disagrees on an American pullout in Iraq and recently stated two key reasons to reelect her were her influence in the senate and seniority.
