According to the latest Rasmussen Reports election survey of 500 likely voters, incumbent Gov. Jim Doyle (D) continues to enjoy a narrow lead over his Republican challenger, Congressman Mark Green, 47% to 41%. Doyle’s numbers remain unchanged from the last survey in April while Green’s have seen a two-point drop.

The race has remained remarkably stable, with Doyle enjoying a 4 to 7 point lead in each of the five Rasmussen Reports election polls conducted since December. Still, the incumbent has yet to hit the 50% level of support among likely voters, a sign that Doyle is not immune to a serious challenge.

Views of the candidates are also very stable. Green is viewed favorably by 48% and unfavorably by 38%. For Doyle, the numbers are 56% favorable and 41% unfavorable.

In the race for U.S. Senate, incumbent Sen. Herb Kohl (D) continues to enjoy a comfortable lead over his Republican challenger, Robert Gerald Lorge, 60% to 27%. Despite a previous run for the U.S. Senate in 2004 and a primary win in the 2002 race for Wisconsin Secretary of State, Lorge fails to make a definitive impression with voters. Only 32% view him favorably, 34% unfavorably and the remaining 34% simply aren’t sure what they think of him.
