The Democratic governor of Michigan may have the advantage of incumbency but, burdened by the state's lackluster employment outlook, has yet to win support from more than 50% of likely voters in a match-up with her likely Republican opponent. In Michigan's Senate race, Debbie Stabenow is safely above the 50% level when matched against three potential Republican candidates. Governor Jennifer Granholm now leads Republican Dick DeVos, the son of Amway founder Richard DeVos, 49% to 38%. Our poll in early December showed Granholm's lead at 48% to 36%. Just 8% are currently undecided; 4% would choose another candidate. Older voters are more likely to support Governor Granholm including 60% support from those 65 and older. DeVos enjoys the support of 78% of voters who strongly approve of President Bush's overall job performance; he also wins 56% of those who somewhat approve. The numbers flip for Granholm. She wins 79% of those who strongly disapprove of Bush, and 56% of those who somewhat disapprove. Crosstabs are available for Premium Members. Fifty-five percent (55%) of women prefer Granholm, versus 32% who prefer DeVos. Men split almost evenly between the two, 44% going for Granholm, 45% for DeVos.
