Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D) has expanded her lead against two Republican challengers and, for the first time, moved above the 50% level of voter support. The incumbent now leads former state House Speaker Robin Jennison 51% to 32% (it was 47% to 36% a month ago). She also leads State Senator Jim Barnett 50% to 37% (up from 45% to 37% in our previous poll). No Democrat in the very "Red" state of Kansas can take anything for granted on Election Day. However, Sebelius is viewed favorably by 67% of likely voters including 59% of Republicans. More than 30% of Republican voters currently prefer her over each of the GOP challengers. While Sebelius is well known and well-liked, more than a third of voters say they don't know enough about either of her challengers to have an opinion.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of Kansas voters say it's too easy for a woman to get an abortion in the United States. Just 18% say it's too hard. Sixty-three percent (63%) say abortion is morally wrong most of the time. The rolling average of the last three Rasmussen Reports election polls in Kansas shows Sebelius ahead of Jennison 48% to 33%. She leads Barnett in the three-poll average 46% to 36%. Crosstabs are available to Premium Members.
