Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue (R) is facing stiff competition from Secretary of State Cathy Cox (D) in his effort to be re-elected. At the same time, Perdue has opened a 15-point lead over another Democrat who wants his job.

Perdue now leads Cox by just six percentage points, 48% to 42%. That's just a bit tighter than last month's 49% to 41% lead.

Perdue has more breathing room against Taylor as he leads in that match-up 51% to 36%. Those figures reflect a five point decline in support for Taylor since last month.

Two months ago, Perdue led both Democrats by 20 points. He also held a double digit lead against both Democrats in January.

Seventy-one percent (71%) of Georgia voters believe that existing immigration laws should be enforced and the border controlled before additional reforms are considered. Fifty-nine percent (59%) believe that the goal of immigration policy should be to welcome everyone who is not a national security threat, criminal, or welfare seeker.

These views are consistent with national survey data and most other states. Also in keeping with data from other states, Georgia Republicans are more likely than other voters to support both an enforcement first approach and a goal that welcomes all immigrants except those who might be a threat of some sort.

Sixty-four percent (64%) of Georgia Republicans favor the welcoming policy as a goal for immigration reform. Just 45% of Democrats in the state share that view.

Sixty-three percent (63%) of Georgia voters believe that tax cuts are good for the economy. Just 15% believe they hurt the economy. Forty-nine percent (49%) say tax preparation is worse than a trip to the dentist. Forty-one percent (41%) take the opposite view.

The rolling average of the past three Rasmussen Reports polls shows Perdue leading Cox 50% to 39%. The two most recent polls show Cox significantly closer than the average, confirming a tightening of the race.

However, the three-poll rolling average for the Perdue-Taylor match-up shows Perdue leading 52% to 36%. That's virtually identical to the current poll result and highlights the fact that Taylor is not as competitive as Cox at this point in the race.
