North Dakota Senate: Hoeven (R) Remains Far Ahead of Potter (D)

For now, Republican John Hoeven faces little competition in his bid to win the North Dakota Senate seat now held by retiring Democrat Byron Dorgan.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Hoeven leading his Democratic challenger, Tracy Potter, by nearly a three-to-one margin, 68% to 25%.  Two percent (2%) favor some other candidate, while five percent (5%) are not sure.

This race remains solid GOP in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power Rankings.

Since Dorgan’s surprise announcement in January that he would not seek reelection, Hoeven has remained overwhelming ahead of Potter.  Dorgan’s announcement came shortly after a Rasmussen Reports poll in the state showed Hoeven with a 22-point lead over Dorgan in a hypothetical Senate match-up.
