Last month, she jumped out to a 15-point lead from a seven-point spread the month before.
Collins, who is seeking a third term in the Senate, is supported by 89% of Maine Republicans and 23% of Democrats. Allen, currently a member of the House of Representatives, is backed by 74% of Democrats and 10% of GOP voters. Unaffiliated voters favor Collins by double digits, largely unchanged from a month ago.
Two-thirds (66%) have a favorable view of Collins, while 55% say the same of Allen. But 40% have an unfavorable view of the Democrat versus 32% who feel that way about the Republican.
Maine Governor John Baldacci, a Democrat, earns good or excellent ratings from 32% of voters while 36% say he is doing a poor job.

This telephone survey of 500 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports on September 17, 2008. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
