Colorado Senate: Democrat Udall Up By Seven

Democrat Mark Udall has opened a seven-point lead over Republican Bob Schaffer in Colorado’s race for the U.S. Senate. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds Udall ahead 51% to 44%.

This is the first time Udall has surpassed the 50% level of support since tracking of the race began last November. Last month, the Democrat led 46% to 44%.

The two men are competing to replace retiring Republican Senator Wayne Allard.

Udall now leads 58% to 33% among unaffiliated voters in Colorado. Women favor Udall by a 52% to 41% margin, while men now support the Democrat 50% to 47%.

Udall is viewed favorably by 53% and unfavorably by 44%. Schaffer earns favorable reviews from 47% and unfavorable ratings from 48%.

In addition to the increasing possibility that Republicans will lose Allard's seat in Colorado, other GOP Senate seats at risk include Alaska, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Oregon, New Mexico, Mississippi, Minnesota and Virginia. The state's Democratic governor, Bill Ritter, earns good or excellent ratings from 50% of Colorado voters, while 22% give him a poor rating. This is an increase in both numbers from a month ago.
