The economy remains the most important issue of Election 2008, and just four percent (4%) of Oregon voters rate the national economy as good or excellent. Sixty-six percent (66%) rate it as poor. Only six percent (6%) believe economic conditions are getting better while 66% say they are getting worse.
Obama is now viewed favorably by 58% of Oregon voters, McCain by 54%. Obama’s running mate, Joseph Biden, is viewed favorably by 59% while the Republican vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, earns positive reviews from 45%.
Nationally, Obama has opened a steady lead in both the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll and the Electoral College projections.
As this poll is released, Obama has the edge in every state won by John Kerry four years ago. However, of the states won by Bush, McCain is trailing in four, and five others are considered a toss-up. As a result, Electoral College projections now show Obama leading 255-163. When “leaners” are included, Obama leads 300-174. A total of 270 Electoral Votes are needed to win the White House.
