Lieutenant Governor Bev Perdue now has a six-point lead over Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds the Democrat ahead 49% to 43%.
When “leaners” are included, Perdue maintains a six-point lead, 51% to 45%.
The two candidates were essentially tied last month after Perdue closed a six-point deficit she had back in May. Perdue is currently serving her second term as the Tar Heel State’s lieutenant governor. McCrory has been Charlotte’s mayor since 1995.
This month, Perdue leads 49% to 35% among voters not affiliated with either party. She also leads 54% to 39% among women. Among men, McCrory leads 50% to 42%.
Favorability ratings for the candidates are very similar. The Republican is viewed favorably by 56% and unfavorably by 35%. Perdue’s ratings are 55% favorable and 40% unfavorable.
Rasmussen Markets data currently shows that Perdue is given a % chance of winning the election in November while McCrory is given a % chance. These figures are updated on a 24/7 basis by market participants.
Mike Easley, the state's Democratic governor, earns good or excellent ratings from 32% of voters in North Carolina. Over a quarter (27%) of voters say he is doing a poor job.

This telephone survey of 700 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports on August 13, 2008. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
