Advertisment

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in New Hampshire found former Governor Jeanne Shaheen leading incumbent Senator John E. Sununu in the race for New Hampshire’s United States Senate seat. It’s Shaheen 49%, Sununu 41%.

Any incumbent who is polling below 50% is considered potentially vulnerable. New Hampshire is one of several states where the Democrats may be able to expand their majority in the Senate.

Shaheen's lead has increased slightly since September, when she led Sununu 48% to 43%.

Shaheen leads 55% to 32% among women while Sununu has a 50% to 44% advantage among men. Shaheen also holds a nineteen-point lead among unaffiliated voters.

Sununu is viewed favorably by 47% and unfavorably by 47%. For the Senator, that’s a slight decline from the previous survey when he earned favorable reviews from 50%.

Shaheen is viewed favorably by 55% of voters and unfavorably by 41%.

When it comes to how people will vote in the upcoming presidential election, the economy is the most important issue for 34% of New Hampshire voters. The War in Iraq comes in second with 19% of voters and Immigration comes in third with 13% of voters who believe it is the most important issue.

In the New Hampshire presidential election, Hillary Clinton is essentially even with John McCain while Barack Obama holds a significant lead over the Senator from Arizona.
