Georgia Senate: Incumbent Chambliss Holds Double-Digit Leads Over Democrats
Advertisement

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Georgia found Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss enjoying double-digit leads over three potential Democratic candidates in his bid for re-election.

Chambliss leads Dale Cardwell 52% to 36%, Vernon Jones 56% to 30% and Jim Martin 51% to 33%.

Back in November, Chambliss still held strong leads against Jones and Cardwell, and was also ahead of then-candidate Rand Knight by twenty-four points.

Chambliss is viewed favorably by 57% of Georgia voters and unfavorably by 29%. Jones, the CEO of Dekalb County, earns favorable ratings from just 25% and unfavorable ratings from 58%. Former congressman Jim Martin is viewed favorably by 35% and unfavorably by 36%, while 28% are not sure.

Governor Sonny Perdue earns good or excellent ratings from 55% of Georgia voters. Just 13% give him a poor rating. Thirty-four percent (34%) of Georgia voters said that if Perdue were to become the Vice Presidential nominee, they would be more likely to vote for John McCain in the presidential election. Another 31% said they would be less likely to vote for the GOP nominee, while 27% said it would have no impact on their decision.

In the presidential election, McCain holds strong leads over both potential Democratic candidates in Georgia.
