In Illinois, the latest Rasmussen Reports survey finds Senator John F. Kerry leading President George W. Bush 54% to 38%. Our previous survey in Illinois found Kerry with a much narrower 5-point lead. However, the current results are very similar to our March survey which found Kerry leading 52% to 39%. Four years ago, Al Gore carried Illinois by a 12-point margin, 55%-43%. Just 44% of Illinois voters Approve of the way Bush is performing his job as President. That represents a five-point drop from our previous survey. The President's ratings in Illinois are several points lower than his national Job Approval ratings. While Kerry holds a comfortable lead in Illinois, the race remains a toss-up on the national level. Data for Illinois will updated again early next month. Rasmussen Reports has also recently released polling data for the states of New York, Texas, California and Ohio. Other state polling data will be released each day this week.
