Half of Americans Like Trump's Alternative to Food Stamps

Friday, February 16, 2018

President Trump has proposed shifting at least half of a food stamp recipient's monthly benefit from a monetary payment to a box of healthy, homegrown food. Nearly half of Americans believe it’s too easy to get food stamps and are open to this new plan.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 49% of American Adults favor Trump’s plan to subsidize Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a monthly box of shelf-stable food, including pasta, cereal, shelf-stable milk and canned produce, called “America’s Harvest Box.” Thirty-six percent (36%) oppose that plan, but 15% are undecided.
