Following the Live Earth concert, 33% of Americans say they followed news coverage of the event Somewhat or Very Closely. That’s up from 22% before the performance.

Given a list of five causes, 60% were able to identify that Global Warming was Live Earth’s issue. Nine percent (9%) thought the concert was about World Peace, 4% thought it was about immigration reform, 3% said anti-poverty programs, and 2% thought it was for Aid to the Homeless. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 23% admitted they were not sure what cause Live Earth was designed to help.

A separate survey found that Americans consider the War in Iraq, the economy, and immigration to be more important issues than Global Warming.

Half of Americans (50%) believe that human activity is the primary cause of Global Warming. That’s up slightly from 46% in a survey conducted last December. Thirty-four percent (34%) say warming is caused by long-term planetary trends and 5% say something else is warming the planet. Ten percent (10%) are not sure.

Only 34% believe it is possible to stop Global Warming. Thirty-eight percent (38%) say it is not while 28% are not sure.

A survey conducted before the Live Earth concert found that most Americans believe the rock stars participated primarily to help their own image rather than due to concern about the cause of Global Warming.
