Advertisment

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Americans say that Vice President Dick Cheney should be impeached and removed from office. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 40% disagree while 29% are not sure.

Among Democrats, 51% say the Vice President should be impeached while only 22% disagree. Just 8% of Republicans and 30% of unaffiliated voters favor impeachment of the Vice President.

Twenty-five percent (25%) of all voters say they’d be more likely to vote for a candidate who works to have Cheney impeached. Thirty-six percent (36%) say they’d be less likely to vote for such a candidate. Twenty-eight percent (28%) say it would not influence their vote while 10% are not sure. Among unaffiliated voters, 28% would be more likely to vote for a candidate seeking Cheney’s impeachment while 39% would be less likely to do so.

Five percent (5%) of voters say it is Very Likely that Cheney will be impeached and another 10% consider it Somewhat Likely. Fifty percent (50%) say the impeachment is Not Very Likely. Twenty-five percent (25%) say it is Not at All Likely.

Last Tuesday, Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich introduced a measure to impeach Cheney. The bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee, but no hearings are scheduled on the measure. Forty-eight percent (48%) of voters say they have followed news coverage of the story at least Somewhat Closely. The New York Times stated “It is hard to know which effort has longer odds, the bid by Representative Dennis J. Kucinich, Democrat of Ohio, to become president of the United States, or his bid to unseat Vice President Dick Cheney by impeaching him.”

In the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll finds Kucinich currently attracting less than 3% support.
