This Mother’s Day, two-out-of-three adults (66%) believe that being a mother is the most important role for a woman to fill. Only 17% disagree and 16% are not sure. Those figures are similar to our survey conducted this time last year. Not surprisingly, more women (72%) think being a mother is the most important role than men (60%). A survey for Father's Day last year found that 71% thought being a father is the most important role a man can fill. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of men and 74% of women agreed on that. (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls.) Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter. To honor their mothers on Sunday, 70% say they plan to visit their moms, and 25% say they’ll call. Just four percent (4%) say they won’t do either. Eighteen percent (18%) plan to send their mothers flowers, but 67% will not. Men are a little more likely to call their mothers or send them flowers than women (see crosstabs). But women (72%) are more likely to visit their mothers than men (68%). Overall, 29% consider Mother’s Day to be one of our nation's most important holidays, down two points from a year ago. Ten percent (10%) deem the holiday to be one of the least important, while 59% say it’s somewhere in between.
