Some adults seem to be getting a head start on their holiday shopping this year. With about seven weeks left until Christmas, 27% say they’ve already begun shopping for the season. That figure includes 31% of women and 24% of men. Sixty-nine percent (69%) are waiting to get started--some until after Thanksgiving and some perhaps until the very last minute.

Five percent (5%) say they’ve already finished their shopping while 91% have not.

Forty-four percent (44%) of Americans say that holiday gift shopping is a fun experience while 35% consider it an unpleasant chore. There’s a gender gap on this question as a plurality of women say they enjoy holiday shopping while a plurality of men take the opposite view. There’s also a generation gap—younger adults are far more enthusiastic about holiday shopping than their elders.

In addition, when all is said and done, 56% say they’ll spend more money on specific gifts for people. Only 21% will spend more on gift cards for their friends, families or co-workers, while the remaining 23% are not sure.

Overall, 53% say they plan to spend less on gifts than they did last year. Seventeen percent (17%) intend to spend more, while 28% will spend about the same as they did last year.
