Fifty-three percent (53%) of voters say that they pray every day or nearly every day. A Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 Likely Voters found that another 15% pray several times a week. Just one-out-of-eight voters (12%) say they rarely or never pray. These findings come as the Democrats are struggling with how to connect with "Red State" voters on moral values. A separate survey found that 10% of voters said that cultural issues were the most important in determining their vote this year. These voters overwhelmingly supported President Bush. While Democratic Party leaders struggle on this issue, 52% of rank-and-file Democrats say that they pray every day or nearly every day. Fourteen percent (14%) of these prayerful Democrats voted for President George W. Bush last week. Sixty-three percent (63%) of Republicans pray every day or nearly every day along with 41% of those who are unaffiliated with either major party. Sixty percent (60%) of women say they pray daily along with 46% of men. Older voters are more likely than younger voters to pray daily. Another survey on the cultural issues topic found that those who are pro-Choice on the issue of abortion are divided on the issue of same-sex marriage. As a result, 40% of voters are both pro-Life and opposed to same-sex marriage. Just 27% are both pro-Choice and supportive of same-sex marriage.
