Americans agree that autism is a serious problem but see more awareness and detection of the developmental disorder as the primary reason for the increased number of cases being reported by the federal government.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 71% of American Adults view autism as at least a somewhat serious problem in America today, with 24% who say it is a Very Serious one. Twenty-one percent (21%) don’t consider the condition a serious one, but that includes only three percent (3%) who say it’s Not At All Serious. (For survey question wording, click here)
The national survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on March 29-30, 2014 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
