Seventy percent (70%) of Americans say their families participate in recycling, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Just 25% say they don’t. Sixty-five percent (65%) of adults also say their home communities make it easy to recycle, but 28% disagree. By contrast, 53% of employed adults rate their company’s recycling efforts as good or excellent, but 22% give their employers poor marks. But only 22% of Americans are willing to spend more for a hybrid car to help the environment. Sixty-three percent (63%) are not willing to do so, and 15% aren’t sure. Last October, despite soaring gas prices, only 37% of Americans said they were more likely to buy an energy-efficient hybrid car than they were a year earlier. Now for most Americans, the cost of a gallon of regular is around $2, and 62% expect gas prices to be $2 to $3 per gallon this summer. Just 11% think it will drop below $2, and19% see gas in the $3 to $4 per gallon range by summertime. (Want a free daily e-mail update? Sign up now. If it's in the news, it's in our polls.) Rasmussen Reports updates also available on Twitter. Adults under the age of 40 are slightly less likely than those older than them to say their families participate in recycling. Lower-income Americans are less likely to recycle than those who earn more. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Democrats list their families as recyclers, compared to 63% of Republicans and 64% of adults not affiliated with either of the major parties. Republicans, on the other hand, give their employers slightly better environmental marks than Democrats and unaffliateds. Gas prices aren’t the only ones Americans expect to go up. Eighty-five percent (85%) are at least somewhat concerned about inflation. Most Americans expect to be paying more for groceries a year from now.
