After 18 weeks, American Idol will wrap up its sixth season on Wednesday night. Finalists Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis will get one last chance to impress the American public and walk away with the title of American Idol and a recording contract. Sparks is the clear favorite going into the show’s finale. A Rasmussen Reports survey of 540 American Idol fans shows that 50% of fans believe Sparks should be declared the winner on Wednesday night. Just 28% believe Lewis should win.

When fans are asked who will win, Sparks is seen as even more of a favorite. Fifty-five percent (55%) expect Sparks to fly home as the winner, while just 24% think Lewis will be declared the champion.
Last week, however, Idol fans expected Lewis to be voted off the show, but Melinda Doolittle left instead. Doolittle, a professional backup singer, was the co-favorite with Sparks to win the competition.

While Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell still critique the performances of contestants, the overall judging is up to the American public.

Most (56%) fans feel the judging on the talent show is fair and honest. Twenty-seven (27%) disagree. Among those who watch the show, Jackson, Abdul and Cowell are all viewed favorably.

Rasmussen Reports conducts ongoing surveys measuring the attitudes of Americans on the news of the day.
