With one week remaining in American Idol’s seventh season, a plurality (43%) of fans believe that singer-songwriter Syesha Mercado should be the next contestant eliminated. Regardless of who they think should be kicked out, most (58%) fans also agree that Mercado will be the next to go. We’ll find out tonight if fans were right about this week’s elimination. American Idol fans are defined as adults who watch the show occasionally, every week or almost every week. Forty percent (40%) believe David Cook should be crowned this year’s winner. Twenty-nine percent (29%) believe David Archuleta should win and just 13% think Syesha ought to win. More young adults, who make up the biggest share of the audience, believe Archuleta should go home the winner than their elders. Archuleta’s father was recently banned from being allowed to go backstage. According to the Associated Press, Jeff Archuleta’s “intense backstage involvement with his son's song choices and arrangements had become a source of concern for the series.” Finally, when fans were asked who they think will win, an opposite trend occurs. A plurality (41%) think Archuleta will eventually win this year’s American Idol competition. A third (33%) say the same about Cook. These figures have changed little over the past month.
