Americans Oppose A National Sales Tax – Unless Social Security’s At Stake

Americans continue to oppose the creation of a national sales tax to raise more money for the government – unless it’s used to keep Social Security benefits the way they are now. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 22% of Adults favor a national sales tax on all goods and services. Sixty-two percent (62%) oppose the creation of such a tax. The survey of 1,000 Adults was conducted on January 22-23, 2013 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
