52% Are Confident in Stability of U.S. Banking Industry

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Confidence in the banking industry has rebounded slightly and is back to levels seen last fall.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% of American Adults are now at least somewhat confident in the stability of the U.S. banking industry, including nine percent (9%) who are Very Confident. Forty-five percent (45%) still lack that confidence, with eight percent (8%) who are Not At All Confident.

Confidence is up from 49% last month and a recent low of 45% in November. But the confidence figure like a number of regular indicators was down largely due to partisan unhappiness with President Obama's reelection. In October, 53% were confident in the banking system, the highest level of optimism since September 2009.  In July 2008 shortly before the Wall Street meltdown, 68% were confident in the nation's banks.
