A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 60% of Americans would like to see U.S. troops brought home from Iraq within a year. That's up a point from two weeks ago, but down three points from three weeks ago. Over the last seventeen weeks, the number wanting troops home within a year has ranged from a low of 57% to a high of 64%. Twenty-five percent (25%) now want the troops brought home immediately. That result is equal to that of a week ago. Looking at the other end of the spectrum, 36% want troops to remain in Iraq until the mission is complete. That is only a point above the percentage from last week. The number wanting the troops to remain and finish the mission had ranged from 32% to 39%. There are strong partisan differences when it comes to the War. While 85% of Democrats would like to see the troops brought home within a year, only 31% of Republicans would like to see the same. Sixty-six percent (66%) of Republicans want the troops to stay until the mission is complete. Men and women also disagree on when the troops should come home. While 44% of men would like to see the troops stay until the mission is complete, only 29% of women agree. Sixty-six percent (66%) of women want the troops brought home within a year, while 53% of men say the same. Rasmussen Reports has been tracking this question weekly since late August. The survey was conducted in partnership with Fox Television Stations, Inc. Crosstabs are available to Premium Members only.
