Gap Between Dems, GOP Narrows Slightly on Generic Ballot

Voters started the year favoring the Democrats, and while the party still leads, more voters are pulling for the Republicans as midterm elections get closer.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that, if the elections for Congress were held today, 46% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Democratic candidate, while 40% would vote for the Republican. Just four percent (4%) would vote for some other candidate, but another nine percent (9%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on March 1 & 4, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
