Voters Believe U.S. Can Kick Foreign Oil Dependency
In his State of the Union address, President Obama said "the U.S. is as free from the grip of foreign oil as we've been in almost 30 years." More voters agree the country is working hard to develop its energy resources, and more than half still believe the country can end its dependence on foreign oil.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 30% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the country does enough to develop its own gas and oil resources. This is up five points from May and is the highest finding in nearly four years. A plurality (48%) still disagrees, although this is the lowest finding to date. Twenty-two percent (22%) are not sure. The national survey of 800 Likely Voters was conducted on January 21-22, 2015 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology
