South Carolina: Bush 49% Kerry 39%

In South Carolina, the latest Rasmussen Reports survey finds President George W. Bush leading Senator John F. Kerry by a 49% to 39% margin.

Four years ago, Bush carried South Carolina by a 57% to 41% margin. Election 2004 polls in most states find results similar to the actual outcome from four years ago. However, in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia, the President is running behind his pace from the last election. In Pennsylvania, the President is doing better in polls this year than he did four years ago.

Fifty-two percent (52%) of South Carolina voters Approve of the way Bush is performing his job as President. That figure is near the President's national Job Approval rating.

Nationally, our daily Tracking Poll also shows that Election 2004 so far is similar to Election 2000--a dead heat.

Data for South Carolina will updated again early next month. Rasmussen Reports has also recently released polling data for the states of Alabama, Minnesota, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Oregon, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Texas, California and Ohio. Other state polling data will be released each day this week.
