In the state of Florida, the race to replace retiring Senator Bob Graham is a toss-up. While the party nominees have not been selected, match-ups among some leading candidates show this seat is up for grabs in Election 2004. Former Florida Education Commissioner Betty Castor is considered by some the Democratic front-runner. Leading Republican candidates include former Congressman Bill McCollum along with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Mel Martinez. Right now, an election match between Castor and either of these Republicans would be a toss-up. It's McCollum 42% Castor 41% and Castor 43% Martinez 40%. All those results are well within the survey 4.5 percentage point margin of error. The race for the White House is also a toss-up in the Sunshine State. Florida voters have generally positive views of Castor, McCollum, and Martinez. None, however, are viewed as favorably as the man they hope to replace--Senator Bob Graham. President Bush is viewed favorably by 52% of Florida voters. For Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, that number is 51%. The survey was completed just before President Bush's nationally televised Press Conference on Iraq. Thirty-eight percent of Florida voters rate the economy as good or excellent. By a 46% to 31% margin, Florida voters believe the U.S. and its allies are winning the War on Terror. Rasmussen Reports offers a comprehensive Election 2004 polling service.
