Texas Senate: Hutchison By 39 Points

For a while, Kay Bailey Hutchison flirted with the idea of challenging Texas Governor Rick Perry in a Republican Primary battle that had the potential to be nasty intra-party fight.

Instead, the Republican Senator decided to run for re-election and is in great shape as the year begins. Hutchison leads Democrat Barbara Ann Radnofsky 64% to 25% in the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll.

Hutchison is viewed favorably by 67% of Texas voters. Just 25% have a favorable opinion of Radnofsky.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of Texas voters say it is more important to finish the mission in Iraq than to get U.S. troops home as soon as possible. Thirty-nine percent (39%) say getting the troops home is more important.

Fifty-three percent (53%) of Texas voters give President Bush good or excellent marks for handling the situation in Iraq.
