There's been little change in Iowa since our last survey in the race to succeed Governor Tom Vilsack (D). As in January, Republican Congressman Jim Nussle is still neck and neck with Democrat Chet Culver, Iowa's Secretary of State, though Culver now nominally leads, 41% to 40%. Twelve percent (12%) of Iowa voters are unsure who they'd pick if the election were held today and Nussle and Culver were the major-party candidates; 7% would pick someone else. Nussle also maintains a several-point lead over Democrats Michael Blouin and Patty Judge. Nussle leads Blouin 41% to 36% and leads Judge 42% to 37%. But Democrat Ed Fallon, while still trailing, has picked up a bit. Nussle now leads Fallon 42% to 32%, whereas Fallon had trailed by 15 percentage points in January. Nussle is viewed favorably by 54% of voters. He is viewed "very favorably" by 18% and "somewhat favorably" by 36%. Forty-nine percent (49%) view Culver favorably. Forty percent (40%) view Blouin favorably, and 42% view Judge favorably. Fallon, viewed favorably by just 34%, earns the lowest level of support from fellow Democrats. Culver earns the highest level. No Democrat in the race is viewed "very favorably" by more than 11%. When asked to rank the importance of Iraq, the economy, health care, and alternate energy as electoral issues (each deemed important by most voters when asked about them separately), 31% pick Iraq, 29% pick the economy as their top concern. When asked to choose between Iraq and the economy, 50% of all Iowa voters say the economy is the bigger issue, 43% say Iraq.
