August 4, 2005--First-term Governor Mark
Sanford holds a solid lead over potential challengers in his bid for
re-election.
In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey,
Sanford leads Frank Willis by a 52% to 31% margin and Tommy Moore by
a 52% to 30% margin.
Willis is currently serving as Mayor of
Florence. Moore is a state Senator. Neither challenger's name is
recognized by half of the state's voters.
Regardless of who emerges as the
Democrat's nominee, the candidate will have an uphill fight on their hands.
Sanford's Job Approval rating is at 64% in the Palmetto State.
President Bush earns a 58% Approval
Rating in South Carolina.
The telephone survey of 1,000 Likely
Voters was conducted July 27, 2005. The margin of
sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points, with a 95% level of
confidence.
