November 18, 2005--Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans say that President Bush is doing a poor job of handling the situation in Iraq. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that just 33% give the President good or excellent marks on this topic. Fifteen percent (15%) say he is doing a fair job.

Related survey data shows that the country is evenly divided as to whether or not the President should set a firm deadline for bringing home troops from Iraq. An earlier survey found that most Americans place a higher priority on bringing home the troops than insuring a peaceful and free Iraq.

Among Republicans, 60% say the President is doing a good or excellent job handling the situation in Iraq. However, even a quarter of those in his own party (24%) give him poor marks.

Among Democrats, 13% say good or excellent and 73% poor. For those not affiliated with either major party, the numbers are 24% good or excellent and 57% poor.

Fifty-three percent (53%) of women give the President poor marks on Iraq along with 48% of men.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of white Americans give the President poor marks on Iraq along with 59% of other Americans.
